Onifai and Berchida Sardinia

September 4 – 6, 2018

Onifai, Sardinia, Italy

After 6 weeks in New York visiting family, it was time to set off again and we decided to go to Sardinia, Italy!  I have dreamed about visiting for many years, beautiful beaches and delicious Italian food.  We flew from JFK to Copenhagen for one night then to Olbia, Sardinia the next morning.

We are staying in a 2 bedroom apartment in a small town called Onifai nestled between hills with views of larger mountains in the distance.  The town is so small that there is only one pizza restaurant in town!  Last night we walked around town and found churches, fruit trees, an almond tree, many houses for sale, and narrow cobblestone roads.

Today we went to Berchida beach, about 35 minutes drive away with nearly 0 traffic.  To get to the beach,  we drove down a 5 km dirt road that led to a large paid parking lot filled with people.  The beach was covered with sunbathers and people selling stuff.  I had a first experience, we were offered to buy pecorino cheese from a man dressed in small shorts walking the beach.  On our way out we saw him at his truck and the wheel of cheese he was selling looked amazing!  The beach was beautiful.  The water temperature was great, just a little chilly to cool you off and there was small, gentle waves.  Behind the sea we could see small mountains and a lagoon.  We spent a few hours then headed back home.  I can’t wait to explore more beaches here!
